The Tree at Brighton

Visible on Google Earth, and moreso in person ;-)

Shot yesterday before dawn with Kane during some very odd weather (low cloud/fog, pretty much no breeze).

    Unusual, but striking colour.

    Wonderful tones here!
    Excellent DOF.
And that tree is always a winner for photography.
Great shot here, David. Well done.

    Exceptional shot. Bravo!
  • David de Groot said:
Yeah the combination of fog/cloud with the Sodium Vapour lights actually worked. ;-)
Thanks Milli :) Mangroves definitely make for decent subjects.
    Danke :)
    Worked well, thanks.
Yeah the lights add something, combined with the fog, it's a little eerie.
    Thanks! :)
    Well none they've found ;-)

Looks very appealing in the large size. I was interested to see you shot this with quite a wide aperture, yet there is plenty of DoF. I love your composition, really focuses the eye on the tree.

    this is awesome David.

    Stunning! Also love the tones...
  • David de Groot said:
Wide lenses have a fair amount of DoF straight up, so you don't need to stop down a great deal usually, esp. on a scene like this :)
    Thanks :)
I ummed and ahhed about posting this one or a version with the white balance corrected for the lights, but went with this one as it's got an overall interesting feel to it.
    Thanks Rodel :)
Thanks Anita. Those darn sodium vapour lights can work sometimes (usually their tone doesn't help the scene much at all).

Great shot Dave... I love the way that you've composed the island and tree directly in front of the lights and reflections... and still managed to include those rocks in the water on the left! Very nice tones and balance... great work!

Thanks Paul :) It was pretty much the type of image I had in mind when we scoped out the location online, only difference is the weather, which despite being rather odd, worked well for this shot.
    Thanks Everyone!
    Thanks for that!
