Strobist Info: Nikon SB-28(?) into home made ring light (made by Ben Hew) triggered by cactus triggers.

50mm lens at f/5, 1/200, iso 100.

Melanie was a fantastic model (as were all our models), and the last of three models our group shot.

Hmmm, #4 in Explore apparently for 21st Apr, 2008.

Perfect Dave. All you guys have me thinking I should join a strobist group here in Syd. Awesome shot.

Quite happy with how that came out :)
Well worth it Nic, if nothing else, it's a bit of fun, and you learn heaps about light placement and model placement. The second bit is where I'm really needing to learn more.

    Nice one Dave ;-)

That ring light did the trick :) Might have to construct one myself.

Wow... nice shot David!! I can see that you used a ring-flash here... it's reflected in her eyes!
  • David de Groot said:
Sure did Paul - works a treat up close like this :)

    Really striking picture David!
As above, i love the ring light reflections in the eyes.
On top of that, she's very beautiful.

Ring light strikes again! Ben was showing it off at the very beginning of the day, looked pretty interesting, and it certainly has the desired effect... The light seems pretty evenly distributed around it too. Also, great shot. :-)
  • David de Groot said:
Turned out quite well eh ? Ringlights are definitely interesting (if cumbersome) beasties.

Yep, Ben's ringlight worked pretty darn well. A slightly more translucent covering might mean you could get away with less power (it eats a lot with the paper covering), but the results are still very good.

Ben's ring light worked nicely I love the donut highlights in the eyes.
  • David de Groot said:
Indeed it did - quite impressive really.

    Thanks All :)

Yeah, interesting effect on the catchlights eh ? I'm not convinced about the circular catchlights, but there's no denying the quality of the ringlight output though.

Thanks Marc, but as I've stated in my profile, I don't do award or forced comment groups.

Once again, I appreciate the sentiment, but I can't abide by groups that insist on "award" images. I hope you understand.
