in the stirrup chair.

One of many shots from this afternoon's trip to an abandoned healthcare facility.

Met up with Mel, Michael and Glen today for a shoot. Some interesting locations were found, and shot, but there's still much more to cover.

Strobist: Single vivitar 285HV into silver umbrella camera left @ 1/2 power or so.

Bugger, I didn't realise you guys planned this for today. It would've been a great excuse to not do my Uni assignments. Is it a place you would think twice about visiting at night?

Well we left after dark. It was all focus by torch for a lot of the shots due to the lack of light inside in the late afternoon.
The place is quite trashed, but there's no sign of drugs or permanent habitation.
Sturdy footwear is required, and don't even consider kneeling down for a shot as there's broken glass and ceramics everywhere.
Good location though. Only came across two teenagers early in the piece and they ran off quick smart at the sound of adult voices.
There's not a bare wall in the place (all graffiti covered).
Not sure I'd go there after dark alone, that might be tempting fate just a wee bit too much.
Quite likely we'll shoot here again, definitely with a model, and quite possibly some proper themed and planned shots.

I can understand that Lindsay might well look pensive in the stirrup chair. You guys find all the good spots to shoot.

Even during the day the place is quite dark. After 4pm the light rapidly disappeared, leaving us with our flashes to light the way.
I've got so many shots to take a look at. The videos turned out great, but they're too big for here and Youtube is being a cow for me.
Great shot though dave. Mine are shameful in comparison

Well it took some creative thinking by Glen to come up with a shot using that chair that wasn't well... you know, it is a birthing chair...
Ah, three words... Off Camera Flash :)

excellent shot David - sounds like a good find!

Thanks Albert. Shall we be seeing you next weekend for the Zombie Walk ?

I love Lindsay's stockings - and I've discovered a new boot fetish (photo to follow).

@ David - I have every intention of being there, though the later start means I won't be able to be there for the whole thing - have to cathc 7pm flight to CBR. Kids as ever are looking forward to it!

    Only a new boot fetish ? ;-)
Cool we'll see you there then. I'll have my brood along as well.

I don't quite know what to say about this one. Her expression makes it seem like she's uncomfortable, but then again, an mental health facility probably isn't the happiest of places even on a good day.
But, models don't always have to smile, so I'm sure that with some experimentation it should be possible to use a similar expression to great effect.

My fault, I asked her to give us a stern, challenging look: like "who the foo foo are you"?

Did you get any good shots with the 'Nurse' and 'Idoit' graffiti on the back wall David?
The Lighting has turned up good although I think it would have been more interesting if we had more colour on that wall behind Lindsay.
  • David de Groot said:
You're right Rob, the expression is kinda...different.
Ah, the joys of shooting with a 50mm prime in a small space is that you can't always fit everything in. So, no nurse or idiot graffiti in my collection.

    The shots worked out well!

Yeah not bad eh? Got a few good ones, also got some crap, but that's how it goes.

Is it just me or do others think she looks a bit like Kirsten Dunst?
  • David de Groot said:
Dunno, but given Kara's been likened to Ms Dunst, I'd say there's a bit of an internet following of the poor lass ;-)
