Hammerhead shark head-dress

Created by Ken Thaiday Sr of the Meriam Mir people.

Entitled: Beizam.

Made in 1999-2000.

"Ken Thaiday grew up on Erub (Darnley Island) on the outer eastern edge of the Torres Strait Islands. There he learned about the habits of sharks and the movements of the sun and stars and was also taught the associated songs and dances - performance remains one of the most visible expressions of the dynamic cultures of the Torres Strait Islands."
