Cattle Egret (breeding flush)

There were very many of these at the lake in Gatton, mostly sitting on nests, although this one was just finding a new perch.

Shot out the window of my ute.

Looks like its going to burst into operatic song !

If only! They tend to croak/honk/caw, not at all operatic.

Thanks - didn't turn out too bad for shooting out the window of an idling diesel 4wd ute.

The wingspan is huge. Very beautifull bird and very well captured, David.

Thanks :) It's one of those impossible poses that only birds and ballet dances can pull off ;-)
Yes they're an odd bird sometimes, next to no tail, shortish neck for an egret, but a decent wingspan. Most of the year they're a plain white colour, only turning orange in breeding season.
