Myrmecia nigrocincta - Jumper Ant. These guys jump and deliver a very painful sting with little provacation.

    Yep, lots of bugs out here. Had a meetup out here today for the express purpose of shooting them.

    I didn't realise these were quite as vicious as they are until I read about them this arvo. Luckily this one (or it's mates) didn't attack me.

    Yeah I was surprised when I saw one jump, and I reckon I would have been very surprised if one had bit me - and not in a good way.

    Well it helps that we had a macro shoot meet today :) Nasty bitey ants these ones, but luckily we all got away unscathed.
