At the end of the day...

I partook in a special all day shoot with the Australian Napoleonic Association today at Fort Lytton. Many hundreds of photographs were taken, and after most of the others had left a few of us die-hard photographers (well ok, those that can talk the leg off an iron pot), were still around to witness a fairly impressive sunset and make the most of it by including one of the re-enactors in silhouette.

    Cracking silhouette Dave!

[] Thanks Phil. 'twas a loooong day, but I reckon I got some decent images out of it, and we helped a wee lass with cancer in the process.

Very striking. The sky sky and the silhouetted figure make it work nicely.
The only nitpick I'd add is that you could crop away some of the sky to make the figure more prominent.

Wonderful processing and capture. Wish I had one like that ;)
  • David de Groot said:
[] I did think of that... but then, the sky is most of the point. I have one at 600mm which is a very prominent silhouette, but lacks the impact of the sky.
    [] Oh I'm sure you do :P

wow, stunning image. the sky is just perfect!

Fantastic shot Dave. It looks like it was worth staying around until the sunset.
  • Xenedis said:
Aye; I figured you wanted the sky, and I don't blame you at all.

Lovely image Dave. Definitely looks like the end of the day's battle and surveying the land for tomorrow's.

[] Definitely worked well for us :)
[] hehehe precisely ;-) 'twas a good day all round and I tried a few new things too.
[] Indeed it does :) Got some great colour in the sky after this too.
    [] Sure was!
    [] Thanks Nick. :)
[] These guys are really good at their authentic looking poses.
    [] That's for sure!
    [] Thanks!

I love how you have positioned him smack bang in the middle of that bit of cloud.
Interesting to note that it was taken at 200mm F/2.8 .. there is still a fair bit of cloud detail. Shows how the depth of field increases with any given aperture as the distance moves away.
Who was the one who asked him to go up there and pose?
I just remember turning around, seeing him up there with that sky and going "holy shit" as I fumbled for my camera... I've never seen 4 photographers mobilize so quickly.
I haven't looked at my shots yet.

    Now thats a keeper!!!
  • David de Groot said:
    [] Indeed :)
[] I think it was Allan as we'd been standing around discussing how the cloud was about to change colour. ;-)
[] Thanks Liza - pretty much knew we were in for a show at sunset and thus hung around for it.
