Leucosarcia melanoleuca.
Purely an ID shot only as it's is at high-iso and a relatively slow shutter speed (on a tripod).
The Wonga Pigeon is one of the larger pigeons native to Australia. It lives in various forest types from Mackay (Central Qld coast) to Gippsland in Victoria. These birds are found most often when feeding on the ground.

great capture!!
its a pretty bird though, high iso or not !
not many needed to make pigeon pie then !!!
at that size its more like a very pretty chicken !
It's not even our largest pigeon, that honour goes to the Wompoo Fruit-Dove which can grow up to 50cm!
wompoo... sounds like a Mc Donalds special, do ya what fries with it ?
Okay so as we are getting statistical here....
our biggest pidge is a woodpigeon, its not pretty like yours, its length is 40-42 cm or 16 inches, I'm still an inches person. No E.U. is going to make me otherwise...and its wingspan is 75-80cm or 30-32 inches.
I am now going to do a search on a wompoo !
..... oh very pretty !
I'm thinking it'd taste a lot better than McD's.
I haven't got wingspan figures for these guys, however, we have had a pair of Wompoo's in one of our palm trees a while back. In fact there's a spectacularly crappy shot of it here.
Oh yes - that spectacularly crappy shot - I've been trying to forget that photo............. : P
Bins held up to the camera ! 10 out of 10 for trying : ) My we have moved on a bit eh !
