While on my walk yesterday, I cam across a White Faced Heron on the handrail of the mangrove walk in the Botanic Gardens. He let me get within a couple of feet of him and I snapped away happily.
A family of British tourists came along and the bird was photographed some more before it finally had enough and flew off.

Nice contrasts between the cool blues of the bird and the river and the warmth of the fading sun. It looks to be watching the water in anticipation of dinner. :)
This was definitely the best of the series, the rest were backlit, and the one flash shot I took was probably the worst of the whole lot.
I think it was definitely hoping for some tasty morsels as the tide went out.
nice pick david - really nice.
Thanks Sarah :)
Looks a beautiful bird - nice one :-)
It is, they tend to wander around the mangroves just after the tide has gone out, hunting for small marine creatures in the puddles. This one was obviously looking for larger prey in the waters just over the edge of the boardwalk.
wonderful capture!
Thanks Maria :)
very nice. :-)
I was pretty chuffed he let me get that close. :)
