Waterfall

One of five possible choices for the WP Comp. but personal preference for waterfalls led me to choose this one.

It didn't win though - I guess it was too "traditional" or some-such and the field was very strong this month.

This little waterfall is just off the track on the way to the Araluen Cascades at Finch Hatton Gorge.

It's a great shot! If you close your eyes, you feel the water on your feet and hear the whip birds.

    Thanks Michelle :)

When I shot this I was very pleased with it, but now that I've had a couple of weeks and come back to it, I'm less pleased with the slightly blown foliage in the background. I probably should have waited another 30 to 45 mins for the light to go further, or better still used a graduated neutral density filter (alas, I don't have one).

Here is an edited version. I'm not sure it's quite there yet, but the foliage is not as bright.

shame it didnt win anything but with so many folks having digital cameras- its got to be getting tougher all the time. Did you like what did win, very often I dont, when I have seen competitions in camera magazines. I look at the winner and wonder why !!

Johnno's very worthwhile shot won. It definitely deserved it, and I like it a lot.

Yes it looks very good, even though tweaked !! Of course he has a 5D and an L lens...... !! Nah its a good photo !!
  • David de Groot said:
I'm not sure it's tweaked much at all actually. Johnno doesn't do a great deal to his photos.

Then its even better than I thought !! Good for him !

    Indeed :)

I don't know David. Certainly the image is better with a dampening of the foliage.
I'm not good at this cos as you know I photoshop just about everything I do. Not into reality much LOL.

    Suggestions;
Maybe drop the crop to take away some of the distractive foliage.
A higher view next time to drop out the foliage.
It's not that the foliage is bad...it's just a bit messy when you compare it to the smooth falls area. But as I said...no expert.
  • David de Groot said:
Yeah a tighter crop might do it. It's funny, when I took it I thought it was quite good, but I'm far less impressed with it now. Of course, the location is about 1,100kms away so I'll not be returning to reshoot anytime soon.

Isn't there a version of this that is more 'wdie angle'?
Publish that - its really weird seeing these HUUGE rocks around the little waterfall :)

(Does any one else see anything strange about me sending a suggestion to Dave via a service on the otherside of the planet when he is sitting right behind me?)
