While baking Kara's Birthday cake, a King Parrot decided to grace our veranda.
I managed to get within 2.5m of him but this photo is still very heavily cropped as a 50mm lens isn't really suitable for birding ;-)

Good work Dave.
For a 50mm lens this is really good.
Nice highlight in the eye too.
What a special visitor.
I love the orange in this bird - and such beautiful detail.
A favourite for me.
Any lenses in mind for the longer focal length range?
you must live in a really nice area to have birds like that flying around! and willing to let you come that close as well is a bonus
i think with canon you cant go past their 70-200 range of lenses as a start. problem is, once you get one, you always want another :P
btw, how do we put the little avatar things when making a reply to a specific person?
As for the little icon things, it's a greasemonkey script (called Flickr Buddy Icon Reply).
Lovely bird! So vibrant.
I have a 70-200 f/2.8 and love it. Haven't uploaded many shots that I've taken with it. Really should.
Nice shot David. Will we get to see the cake too? :)
special !
regardless of the crop, great shot!
