Treasury Balls

We ended up, yet again, at Brisbane Square next to the Treasury Casino at the end of the evening photowalk with Johnno.

Much tooling around with the 580ex flashes was done, as well as various shots of the casino and Brisbane's steamer basket balls.

When we were tooling around the the 580EXs, at one point I had my camera pointed at the ball, and I took an exposure purely to test the master/slave settings between the 580s.

Believe it or not, I achieved a sharp, well-composed abstract image of the ball. It was completely unintentional, and just happened to be in the lens's field of view at the time. I'll post it later.

Now where have I seen this before. Actually David, I like the colour cast/tint the ball has at night. Great shot!

Thanks Heidi - it would have been infinitely better during the "blue hour", but you get what you can when there.

I remember that, quite the fluke :)

They're a very popular feature, although I did notice that the internal lights weren't lit anymore :( I hope it's only temporary while they put coloured lights inside for Christmas.

I never knew they were internally lit. I almost thought this was Johnno's shot, being on an angle and all...

Aha, no, I've been known to do some quirky angles at times too. But yes, they are meant to be internally lit.

Don't hold your breath, ideas like this require planning and the purchasing of offal.

Yeah it's pretty :) I haven't been inside in almost 10 years so I have no idea what it's like in there now.

I can't say anything about the gambling, but there's some nice bars in there. I pointed one out with a note.

Oh I know, that was the only reason I used to go in there in my Uni days. Slouching about on the large couches, cognac in one hand, cigar in the other.
  • rumblemumbles said:
hahaha we only go in because of the cheap cocktails! Oh and when the boy shave had enough to drink they think they are champion gamblers...and then I have to lend them money to get home :)
  • David de Groot said:
That is of course why the cocktails are cheap (if not good).

Wow. Amazing texture and detail in this one.
  • David de Groot said:
Thanks Andrew. I reckon I could do better when there at dusk or dawn, as the black sky doesn't do anything for me, but I wasn't there at those times so that's what we get.

dig the lights here...great night time colors
  • David de Groot said:
It's definitely the prettiest building in town at night :)

These balls are by wonderful and local artist named Donna Marcus, they are fabulous aren't they?
  • David de Groot said:
They are pretty neat - I'm just annoyed that council has first changed the coloured lights inside to plain white, and then later turned off the lights completely. They were pretty neat glowing in different colours when they were first installed.
