This is the "other" Big Pineapple in Queensland.
The original one is near Nambour on the Sunshine Coast, and attracts about half a million tourists per year.
This pineapple on the other hand, seems to be for sale.

Interesting structure, makes me wonder why "pineapple"? ;-) Is there a pineapple plantation near the area?
Our town's landmark is a humongous "bamboo shoot", fyi:-D
Nice shot!!
Thanks Maria, it was just a shot taken from the car as we drove by.
As for being a pineapple, you are correct, there are pineapple plantations all through coastal Queensland. The original Big Pineapple in Nambour marks a large pineapple plantation that has been setup as a tourist attraction as well as a working plantation.
I'm not sure why someone built this one in Gympie though.
In Gympie, I have never seen it. Used to go to the other one every year with my grandparents when I was at school.

Seen in Highway 1, Australia (?)
the mind boggles!
I like the look of this one better but why go to all that trouble and expense!!
yewenyi, it's on the main hwy through town. You can even see it on Google Maps. :)
Helen, well, because you can of course!
It used to be a petrol station - with added attraction. Glad to see it is still there - the fences were up when I drove past in 2004 and I was concerned for the plight of this icon. Looks like it may be retained though?
Thanks Lookfar. Yes it's still there (or at least it was in June 2006).
Of course, with it on the market, it's anybody's guess how long it will survive once sold.
I'm sure this is a genetic experiment ;-)
Nah all our pineapples are this big David ;-)
It's still there behind the fence looking sad and unloved. I think the real estate agency The Professionals are the people to go see if your interested in owning it. C'mon it's a big pineapple. Who seriously wouldn't be interested in owning one of those. Even Ross Noble had to talk himself out of buying it. If they're going to get rid of it though, I'm going to cry.
wow!
Hi fellow pineapple fans, unfortunately this pineapple is no longer there! i was driving through Gympie last weekend and it has been replaced by a boring, but no doubt handy, convenience store! Very sad. Maybe the pineapple was rescued and is now retired to a lovely paddock somewhere.
Oh that is sad indeed.
