Sunset Layers

On the way home from an afternoon trip in search of storms, I stopped at the Western Window lookout on Mt Glorious at Sunset to catch these shrouded, layered mountains and pastel coloured sky.

The Sun was setting off-frame to the right, and was approaching blood red due to the smoke. I managed to shoot it a bit further down the road through the trees, but the camera wasn't able to record the colour as I saw it (presumably due to the intensity of the sun).

    Ahh...that's beautiful, David.
I also find it very difficult to capture the real color of the sky.
    Wait...in search of storm?

The prediction was for west of the range, alas, it didn't happen - upper atmosphere wasn't conducive to storm heads.
Yeah I'm a sucker for layered hills Paul. Somewhat like the old Chinese paintings.
Indeed - and it was quiet too (well apart from the sounds of the rainforest).
Thanks David - at least all that smoke from the 4 or 5 fires I saw out that way during the day was actually useful for something.
    Thanks :)
Sunset was definitely worth it though - smoke + setting sun = colour :)
Yep - storm chasing :) Fun for everyone! Well when there is a storm that is, otherwise it's a long drive looking for clouds.
