Maroochydore Beach, Sunshine Coast, Qld.
After the big Buderim Falls expedition, we dropped by Maroochydore to see what the big seas were like and Garry showed us the sandbag barrages that are used to reduce beach erosion.
ND400 utilised for this broad daylight exposure.

A local on the beach told us that the sandbags are made of recycled soft drink bottles. Makes sense - plastic won't be as vulnerable to the elements as a natural fibre fabric, but -amazing! They look very cloth-ey
cool shot, when i use my nd 400 in the day it always comes out with a blue purple ting, and i need to edit them alot to get the colour back... what do you do, do u focus on the subject, then put the filter on? cause i don't think im using mine correctly :S
Very nice work Dave - I have a feeling I'll need to get one of these very soon.
Love the sky and clouds in Australia..well click..Friend..
Shots with rushing water (headed right at you) are always fun. :-)
great shot - beach photography is such a wonderfully relaxing thing to do - nice to get results liek this too - I only hate cleaning the tripod afterward
Shoes getting moist? Bah. I was waist-deep in water. None of this sissy "moist shoes" routine for me. Mine were saturated, along with the rest of me.
That's no fun! :-)
Focus with the filter...ehhhhhh, I can't do that. Nice shot Dave, that's the one you got "just" before you jumped back right.

Seen in the group"Brisbane Meetup" (?)
Yeah, this is the one before the shot I had to jump back from.
Nice work Dave I will be trying more of this sort of thing myself. Thanks for the tips
certainly very colourful, is the 5D producing more saturated images, or is it the filter, or are you just going for a more colourful phase at the moment ?!? I know my photos are often bland- say as compared to a Nikon- or so I have been told !! I shoot in raw and rarely alter the colour much, perhaps I should. Interesting- the sandbags etc, I've had a coat- a fleece made out of recycled plastic
there.... just like that !!!
What light loss comes with the ND400? 4 stops? And can you explain why you need to adjust the exposure, unless it's due to light getting in around your eye?
I have a 4-stop filter but it doesn't get me down enough in the one situation I tried.
Great result!
