Stonehenge

on a very foggy morning (our last morning with the car before dropping it back off at Heathrow).

We arrived about 30 mins before it opened and thus managed to get in before the 5 busloads of other tourists that arrived after us.

It wasn't the crisp clear morning I was hoping to get (with the sun rising between the stones), but the fog was atmospheric and hid all the modern fencing and roads quite well.

When I was a wee thing you could wander in amongst the stones, nowadays unless you dress up in a nightie ( sort of garment ) and weave flowers into ones hair and are prepared to join in with thousands of others at the summer solstice then its a no -go area, daft really !
Especially as the stones get sat on at the solstice druid parties.
I loved being able to walk amongst them but I dont wear a nightie....

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/33085391@N00] Oh you can book an early morning tour amongst the stones, max. 6 people and a guide but it books out months in advance and it's very pot-luck with the weather.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevemack] Awesome :) See if you can book the dawn stone walk. It books out months in advance, but I reckon it'd be worth it.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/dadegroot] Ooooh I didnt know about that walk, but then last time we went here was around 20 years ago when one of ours was doing a school project. I dont think my significant other would be prised from his bed for a dawn walk anywhere- which drives me nuts !

I think they do a late arvo one too.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/65708442@N07] Whoohoo! Yeah if I'd known about it earlier, we would have booked in, but one month out isn't early enough.
    [http://www.flickr.com/photos/dtmateojr] Thanks!
