Stars over Lake Moogerah

We held another Startrails & Night Landscape course last night, this time out at Lake Moogerah. Fabulous clear skies greeted us and around 9pm the moon had risen enough to provide some illumination of the lake.

I recognise that tree! great shot, love the static stars instead of those big arcs. beautifully lit too, i nearly went out there, but had work this morning so chickened out.

    Very nice David :)
Did you do one of your classic longer exposures?

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/95778688@N00] Thanks Kirsty, couldn't have asked for a better night for it. Beautifully clear skies with no moon initially, followed by a moonrise at 8:25pm lending some great foreground illumination by 9pm.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/allan_nielsen] Couldn't resist a few static star shots - SOOOOO many stars out last night. I too have work today, feeling a bit groggy this morning for sure.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/defty] I did indeed, just haven't processed that one yet.

I usually don't even bother trying to shoot stars when the moon is visible in the sky... I don't know why though... looking at what you've captured here... who needs a flash-light to do light-painting when you've got this huge flash-light in the sky!!?

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/panorama_paul] Quite true Paul. Obviously you lose some star detail as the moon makes the sky a lot brighter than without it, but it is still possible to capture the clouds of the Milky Way providing the moon hasn't risen too far.
