Smokin' Ninja

One of the more effective Ninja smoke shots I got at the 6th Brisbane Strobist meet.

Strobist Info: Nikon SB-600 behind model triggered by Cactus V2s. Nikon SB-26 triggered by built-in optical slave, camera right and behind photographer. Nikon-SB-600 with green gel camera left next to photographer. White balance changed to correct for green gel (thus making the smoke red).

    We can thank Glen for his masterful Ninja Costume location and hire. I have no idea where exactly he got them from, but they weren't cheap.

    Thanks Wes. We had a fair bit of fun, mixed with bouts of frustration, but got some decent shots in the end, and nobody got hurt, which given the amount of leaping with swords that happened, is pretty good really.

    Ah, well mostly because, a) I didn't think of it, b) someone had green gel'd the ground level SB-600 and I'd not noticed and c) I think the rear flash may have blown out the colour, so this looks to have worked better anyway ;-)

    It was a fun, if somewhat frustrating shoot. Smoke isn't that easy to work with and getting the front lighting right was tricky, but worth it in the end.
