Shell Ginger Blossums

Inspired by Barbara.

I saw these in the Riverside Stage grounds and instantly thought of Barabara's ginger shot.

Good question Melissa. I really don't know. They're a member of the ginger family, but not an edible one as far as I know.
These are really the flower buds, rather than the flowers themselves.

Nice one David, they make great subjects don't they?

The flowers aren't scented, but the leaves and the rhizomes have a strong ginger scent.

seen in the Australian Photographers!!! group

Sure do Barbara :) Ah well there you go Melissa - no scent on the flowers. I must say I didn't try to smell them myself. It's one thing to kneel in the grass in your work clothes to take a shot, it's entirely another to kneel in a garden to sniff a plant ;-)
