Running for the Plane

    Thanks Gianluca. :-)

A bit of fun for a Thursday evening. Yeah, the ground crew on these country landing strips are pretty slack about keeping them clean.

    These always make me smile.
btw: have you seen the lego bible? That is awesome!
    (and at times rather funny...)
  • ~Prescott said:
Nicely done! Just one step away from lego animation.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)
  • David de Groot said:
Yes Andrew, I have, it's quite amusing indeed. See there was a reason I've hung onto all this lego for the last 20 years :)

I lack the patience most of the time to do anything with animation or video Prescott, but now that you've planted that seed, you never know what might happen ;)

    And you too Christopher.

    Funny, great and creative ;o)

hehe - over here he would not be allowed to take that suitcase on the plane as hand luggage any more - clear plastic bags only please ;-p

I like the photo - lovely idea and great tight focus on the lego man and good airplane bokeh ;-)
  • David de Groot said:
    Thanks Horst :)

Ah yes, it won't be long before all flying must be done in the nude, excepting an appropriately placed sock!

I realise, looking back at it now, the lego man should have been about 8mm to the right to better highlight the suitcase without losing it in the fore wheel. d'oh!

Ha ha! That's great, David. Very funny but also very interesting.
  • David de Groot said:
    Thanks Krion :)

You can't go wrong with a toy shot eh Helen :)

Thanks Swiv, it was one of those inspirational moments.

I used one of my own landscape prints as a backdrop Mark, it was entirely the wrong scale but didn't really matter since the chosen depth of field would blur it out anyway, I just needed something there that wasn't a salmon coloured dining room chair ;-)
  • Jeffrey Daniel said:
This is such a great pictures. The tiny depth of field is so perfect here and the plane is blurred just enough
  • borealnz said:
Haha David!!! Just as creative as always! (I still remember Sir Gwain and his apple :-)) I love the DOF!! Great work!!

Thanks Jeffrey. I took a couple before I was sufficiently happy with the shot geometry. Even now, I could tweak it a little, but it works fairly well as is.

Thanks Jill :) None of my actual suitcases are the least bit interesting.

saw this in the thumbnail and thought it was a real plane.

nice work dave. my kids (kids-no-more) still have stacks and stacks of old lego - including a monorail... endless possibilities!
  • David de Groot said:
I still have pretty much all my childhood lego sets, in their original boxes and for the most part complete (i.e. no missing parts). :)
  • Margot- said:
Aww...so cute, David...you give new life to old toys!

Yep, old toys don't deserve to be left kooked up forever.

when i were a lad we never 'ad no lego. we used to stick stones together with chewed up beeswax....

    arrrrhhhh...
  • benefit of hindsight said:
    Stones?!
    Luxury!
Our family had one pebble between us all and we thought ourselves lucky!
  • David de Groot said:
You were Lucky! We couldn't afford no stones or pebbles. 'twas two blades of grass stuck together with spit for us.

Unfortunately (for him) he's a traveling nail file and scissor salesman and the suitcase contains his working samples! ;-)

    Thanks certified_su.
  • benefit of hindsight said:
Well that's a relief - at least he's not from the Brisbane Original Manufacturing Brothers (BOMB) selling loudly ticking alarm clocks.
  • certified su said:
lol - he will be off the Lego Guantánamo Bay any time then.
  • David de Groot said:
Ah but the scissors are ACME brand (Australian Cutting Machine Enterprises), David. ;-)

Quite possibly Susan, although I notice a dearth of airport security....he might just get away with it!
  • just_off_kilter said:
Such an incredibly composed shot. I really appreciate your deliberate and careful use of DOF here. I've never had so much emotion evoked by a Lego before.

Hey Chris! Long time no see.
  • Blaauw said:
Ooooh. I do like playing around with these small fellows. With my camera present, I must say. The great DoF is a big component in the atmosphere here; giving the right amount of blur and the opportunity to step into a Lego-makebelieve...
  • David de Groot said:
Thanks :) It's not the first time I've delved into the world of Lego for a bit of creative photography.
