Red-backed Fairywren

Malurus melanocephalus.

Oxley Creek Commons, last Sunday morning. These guys were quite prolific that morning. This one landed on a fence only 3-4m away from me.

    Thanks Greg, a delight to watch these guys. The males tend to be a bit camera shy but this one didn't mind too much.

    somewhere in my stream i have a tone drop-out of a red-backed wren. i shot it on plus-x or something like that and contact printed it twice on kodalith film to eliminate all the greys.

    seems it was fp4, but hardly relevant. one of the very few photos i actually sold. i like the way the bird is quite identifiable even as a tone drop-out.

    That's true, they don't stay still for long and the males will more often than not, hide in the grass rather than sit out in the open.
