Red Crate Hiding
This sneaky red crate was trying (unsuccessfully) to hide in the leaf litter of a section of the Botanic Gardens. I managed to sneak up on it and take this through the fence.

its probably sitting on eggs or something, you may catch a glimpse of the young soon
Looby is right you know David, you can tell by the black plastic, thats their nesting material.
ooooh! red crate hatchlings! I'll have to keep my eye out for them.

question is, will they be a pure-bred red or a hybrid checkered red-black ?
Maybe that's where the brown ones comes from - cross-breeding...
Thats correct dave , sometime they can be picked by the seemingly milk coloured stains near their abdomen, On their bottom cross hatching that is.
