I had to get up before the sun this morning to take our friend Robin from NZ to the airport for a 7:45am flight (aim to get there an hour early, takes an hour to get there and 45 mins for me to get ready in the morning, so up at 4:35am)
Not a fantastic shot, just took it to prove that I was up that early ;-)

Oh this is lovely.... I just love the graduation of colour in the sky!
And it is good to have proof about how SELFLESS you are, sometimes, isn't it??!! ;P
hehehe thanks Alison, yes it is actually :)
Of course, it's now 12:37pm and I'm feeling somewhat out-of-it. I'm thinking since I got to work at 7am this morning I''ll be taking off a bit early this arvo.
Yes, the gradation is lovely. 4:35 eh? That's tiring just to think of : )
Sure is Melissa... hoping for an early night tonight!
EXIF timestamps are easy to spoof. :P
Bah! Well ok yes they are, but the headache I now have from being up too darn early isn't :P
Hahaha...4:35...a torture for me. But at least you got a nice shot of the sky. :o)
5am is far too early to be up and about -it looks like you had a beautiful morning though.

Seen in my contacts's photos. (?)
LOL Love it Dave!!
Tell you what, I'll keep it on favourites to prove to all those that say to me,
"Nah not Dave , He sleeps all day"!
::--))
Yep, 'twas torture for me too Margot!
Darn right Jill, waaaay too early. And soon as the evil daystar broached the horizon it started warming up. Oh how I dislike summer! (all this was in aid of sending Robin back to Dunedin btw)
hehehe I wish I could sleep all day sometimes Kev!
The Sage of Shadowdale: trust me, he was up and out of bed at oh-god-35 this morning :(
I got up, hugged Robin goodbye and went back and stuck my head under a pillow :)
Sounds like my wife this morning. She's doing a wedding this weekend (she's a freelance florist who mostly does weddings) and so she had to go to the flower markets to get the flowers for the wedding. That means she was up at 3:45am, out the door at 4am, at the markets by 5am, left there to return home at about 5:45am and was home by about 6:45am to sort out the kids for school - what a champion. <yawn>
LOL - David - I did not think we would see this sort of photo from you (EARLY EARLY EARLY). Glad you captured the proof :-)
There's a 5am?
well you could have altered your settings, tweaked it a little in photoshop..........
........................................ah, Lea says you were up so I'll believe you ; p
Sheesh! Whatever happened to "the camera never lies" ;-)
The only time I'm ever up earlier than that is when we're going on a road trip.
Yes David, I was thinking of your dawn photos when I wandered out onto the veranda, so thought I'd best take a couple myself to prove I was up that early.
Aye Phil + Andy, there is indeed. It's a scary place no matter which way you get there ;-)
The only thing anyone should ever be doing at 5am (other than sleeping) is watching a live Arsenal game on TV (although during the World Cup my standards lapsed a little and I sometimes watched other teams, such as Brasil & Australia, at ridiculous hours of the morning/night).
Well sleeping is very high on my list of things to do at 5am. Football doesn't enter into the equation at all. On occasion in the past I have been known to watch a F1GP at around 1 or 2am but not 5am.
smiles - this was fun to read.
btw, I like how you composed the shot, Dave.... the silhouettes frame the sky beautifully.
5 am in the summer is wonderful, the birds singing- possibly in Australia- squawking as well, the light is absolutely wonderful, well it is in the UK, sometimes a soft mist over the land, and its not too darn hot either. It will be a struggle, if not "mission impossible "to convince you though !!
Where's Tom Cruise when you need him.....
Talking of "mission impossible", that reminds me of something else to do with self-portraits, Helen ;-p
ROFL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Alison - admittedly the tilt was just as much me being half asleep as it was composition ;^)
Squawking they were indeed Helen, and on the way to the airport we did indeed pass fields with mist in them (I should have stopped to take photos, there were cows too), but yes, there'll probably be no more dawn photos from me until winter (when the dawn is at a much more reasonable hour).
Hmmm, you might be onto something there David! Oooh, here's an idea... if Helen manages to post a good (proper) self portrait, I'll get up early on the weekend and get some dawn shots.
Lol. I am immune to persuasion, flattery, blackmail ( well probably anyway ) chocolates, flowers, sweet talk etc, but I have come up with an idea, we shall see.... lol, goes off chuckling to herself...
Hmmm well if that idea is to hold your camera at arms length and point it at yourself... don't do it - I need my sleep ;-)
