photo5 - Wind Tunnel

I wanted to simulate a wind tunnel using only one ribbon, so I mounted the ribbon on a fan and used a stroboscopic flash, firing 14 flashes over 1 second to get this effect.

He he, wind tunnels aren't anywhere near as pretty as this!

    Awesome!!!!!! Great effect!

    Thanks Mel. :)
I tried getting Lea to hold a Lego Aeroplane in the middle, but it didn't work. ;-)
Here's hoping, but then there's some stiff competition in the ribbon dept.
    Thanks! :)

    Lego aeroplane you say eh?
"Right - there's still time!!!!" (runs off arms waving madly towards the direction of Kmart to purchase lego, which would be a futile attempt as does not have a red ribbon or strobo strobe! :-)
  • David de Groot said:
Ah well it wouldn't be a total loss, after all, you'd have a Lego aeroplane! ;-) (mine is about 23 years old ~ roughly, but the new ones are pretty awesome).

I like this one a lot Dave, awesome work.

Thanks Matt. I don't think I've got a chance of winning, but am more pleased about this years entries than I was for last years comp.

Nah! Much prettier without a plane!!! :D I really really like this shot. Hope you win :)
  • David de Groot said:
I hope so... but I'm not holding my breath. ;-)

    Nice work on this one

Had a peek at the other entries, it'll be a tough job winning. At least I got a pretty piccie out of it and had some fun playing with strobing flashes ;-)

Nice work David, good job using the stroboflash - i've yet to do much with it yet other than highspeedsync stuff which doesnt give the same effect. Over 1500 for the red ribbon you say.. bugger!
My 30D just died the other night whilst shooting for the lord mayors comp and its tempting to snag a 50D right now but *just in case* i'm holding out until Nov 2 to see who the finalists are.
    Good luck!
  • David de Groot said:
Not tempted to go the 5D Mk II ?
  • Mr Magoo ICU said:
I was very tempted but with the aussie dollar with the way it is at the moment you're looking at 4500 - 4700 just for the body and my 10-22 EFS lens would need to be replaced with the EF equiv 16-35. I'm planning a 2 week trip to tassie at the end of this year so the funds have already been allocated elsewhere :-(

Geez Dave - I logged on to vote for you but couldnt find it !
    What up with that?
  • David de Groot said:
    Apparently it's here.
Oh bugger, not in the finalists.
  • Mr Magoo ICU said:
Same.. but after I went out and bought a 50D, I kinda felt better :-p.
  • David de Groot said:
So what you're saying is I should go out and buy more kit ? ;-)
  • leadegroot said:
Don't listen to him, honey! I want to eat next month!
  • Mr Magoo ICU said:
David.. looks like I could get us into trouble here - replace "buy" with "invest" in the context of post-alcohol-consumption and you might have better luck.
Lea.. but at 15.1MP you could just go photograph other people at restuarants and *almost* taste it. mmm.
  • David de Groot said:
    no no no, 21Mpxl - 5D Mk II :)

Bah! I'm sure the children would still complain their tummies were rumbling as we peered through the windows at the diners!
