Our friendly snake was out on the driveway about 20m from the house today, somewhat late in the year for a visit I would have thought, given that it's doesn't get above 20 degrees here at the moment.
It was quite slow moving (was still as I walked past but was slowing moving off the other side of the driveway when I walked back) but still didn't like being touched (I poked gently it with my finger about 3/4 down it's back as it was mostly off the driveway and in some rocks).

It looks very hungry!
Hi David,
You quite often see carpet snakes moving around during the day in Winter. They're probably not feeding at these temperatures, but they still drink and bask on sunny days.

Nice capture David! I do feel sorry for them! As there is less & less places for them to go!
