Northern Brown Bandicoot

Isoodon macrourus.

Spotted in my backyard this evening. Much juggling of camera and flashes (one on camera, one held at arms length to the left), manually focussed as I could not attain satisfactory AF.

    These little guys are no where near as prolific as when I was a kid. I used to make wooden traps (non harming) to catch them and let them go again and this was suburban Brisbane

    But determined to eat my chicken's feed!
    I throw scraps down to this part of the yard (ones the chooks don't like), so I dare say he's well enough fed anyway, but seems to really like laying pellets.

    You are correct. I have a long term plan for that. Need to buy/make some IR beam triggers, setup a nicely arranged spot, bait it, and leave it to do it's thing ;-)

    I suspect it's either a bit of eczema, or he's been in a fight, or more likely, scratched himself squeezing into my chicken coup!

    No, but he eats all the laying pellets and scares the chooks so they don't lay the next day.
