New Toy

A Canon EOS 50 film SLR, pictured here with my 50mm f/1.8 lens attached.

Came with manual, a roll of film loaded (Kodak 400, could be b&w), and a roll of Kodak B&W (C41).

I'll run a test film through it (presumably the one already loaded) to check to light leaks and may get the back latch fixed.

An awful "product shot" but I couldn't be arsed doing better this evening.

    Sure are. Yeah the duct-tape is a cosmetic issue.

    True, but this is how it came, and I don't have any black tape. However, once this roll is finished I'll investigate the latch and see if I can't repair it myself.

    True - there's something exciting about the non-immediacy of film. I can take months to finish a roll and so when it gets developed I can't remember what was on it. Makes for some nice surprises :)

    This complements the other film SLR. The older one uses FD mount lenses and thus isn't compatible with the dSLR, but this new one is :)

    hehehe Quite. Although I have been using the old T-70 recently (since I have a borrowed 300 f/4 lens in FD mount), but now I can just stick to EF lenses and use them for both film and digital.

    The EOS 50 is fairly similar to the 400D, at least in features and terminology. But yeah, I tend to shoot differently with film too. Much more selective before I press the shutter.

    Well I wouldn't say better, but rather different. Sure they both that photos, but one has an element of surprise in it, and the other has instant gratification. :)
