My New Ute!

I've replaced my old Valiant ute with this 1996 4wd Mitsubishi Triton. As much as the Valiant was pretty cool, it chewed fuel something attrocious so this much more economical 2.5L turbo-diesel sounds like a much better proposition.

It's now sporting a couple of 170mm spotlights (not shown in this picture).

i had a triton in 1991 when i was in darwin. it had very heavy steering and a big turning circle. hope those things have improved...

This one has power steering, so it's no heavier than the Valiant was (which didn't have PS). And the turning circle seems fairly decent for a ute. Admittedly I don't have much to compare with, as the Valiants' wasn't fantastic either (but had the advantage that a hard hook and heavy "go" pedal brought it round faster).
I'm still getting the hang of the whole manual gearbox thing, as until today I hadn't driven one in 14 years - did surprisingly well despite that.

Gee, Valiants must be getting pretty rare.

I see the odd one driving around, but yeah the parts at least are getting very rare. The story goes that when Chrysler sold up their plant in Adelaide to Mitsubishi, they dumped all the parts in the bay as an artificial reef.

I've currently still got the Valiant, but it doesn't go - needs a timing chain housing (or repair to said housing).
