Allan organised an AP Meet on Saturday to shoot some sport/fitness type photographs. Towards the end of the session, we migrated to one of the training room with a set of mirrors as a wall at one end. This proved to be an excellent backdrop and allowed me to really blur out the background (by effectively making it twice as far away).
While giving the appearance of purely natural light, this is actually lit with a single flaash fired into a gold reflector (camera left).
Simple techniques like this are some of the things we discuss in or Portrait Workshops.

Gah!! I totally forgot about this shoot, I got mixed up with dates. Nice work Dave, was real keen to come along too to pick up a few things ::(
Is it just me, or does this guy look like Eric Bana?
Amusing :)
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/leadegroot] I don't see Eric Bana but I do like his face. I wish I could have made this but had other things happening.
Nicely done with the mirror work
hotty :P seem like alot of fun taking portrait. I love the blurred background... very clever, how you control the lights with mirror
reminds me of Patrick Swayze.. Nice shot.
nice nice. i have scheduled a photoshoot with the same model on the 17th of July. this should be fun.
Fantastic photo David
That guy looks like me...
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/aramisfirefly] That's alright Matt, most of the models didn't show anyway.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/accesser] 'tis a bit tricky. So much so, I managed to chop his hands off without noticing - d'Oh!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/1vy] Well as you can see, the window is blown, but I'd aimed for that to provide less distraction and that afternoon feel.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/wanderingseoul61] A bit yeah.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/dtmateojr] He's a good bloke to work with, likes to shoot too.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/geoff_francis] Thanks Geoff. Managed to muck up the composition a titch (cut his hands off), but trying to get focus at f/1.2 and avoid appearing in the mirror while avoiding other people getting in your shot added up to some fast working, and a wee slipup.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/kanegledhill] Ha!
Is that you, David? Why you look so buff!
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/maruchan313] hahaahaa yeah sure Margot ;-)
A jousting injury perchance?
