Yeah it was touch and go for the first half. Every now and then we got just enough of a clearing to get a photo, and then by totality it all cleared up. :)

So, you braved the "masses on the mount"?
David de Groot said: Sure did, it was the quickest and easiest to place to get to that had guaranteed views. We got there early enough to get a reasonable park and a spot on the upper tier of the lookout.
We setup the folding chairs and tripods and made ourselves some dinner (picnic style), then sat back and shot the show.

I wonder how many people used film, bulb shutter, and a black piece of cardboard, exposing every 10 mins or so by removing the cardboard in front of the lens. That was probably the last and only time I ever did it, some 30 years ago !
David de Groot said: I didn't see anyone doing that. There was a film shooter next to me, but I think he was just shooting single frames. Mind you, he did have an EOS body, so maybe he was shooting multiple exposures (my EOS 50 will do up to 9 exposures before advancing the film). Alas, though, I don't have a remote release for the other film SLR (the one with the big lens), as it's a silly Canon T3 connector, not the 2.5mm stereo plug that's used by the midrange EOS film bodies or low range EOS digitals.

stunning shot
David de Groot said: Thanks Alison. It was an impossible shot to do it like I wanted (that is, detail in the moon, but with glowing clouds and city below), so I compromised and just went with the glow and city :)
Thanks!

David de Groot said: And that was after I'd stopped down a bit to reduce some of it! Brisbane, after all, is a capitol city so it's no big surprise really.

I'm not 100% happy with it, but it'll do.

David de Groot said: Not too surprising really - there wasn't much else to do waiting for the show to start ;-)
