Masked Lapwing Chick

Not a particularly good shot, but the best of a fairly ordinary batch.

These guys are also known as Plovers and are the bane of many a golfer.

    hehehe, yes the parents are weird birds too. I'd never seen chicks before (these things nest on the ground, but they're somewhat protective too).
    Next time I need to remember to lug the tripod around with me, esp. if I'm intending to use Johnno's long lenses. Even with IS, 420mm on a Canon 400d (giving a field of view of 672mm), is not that easy to handhold steadily.

    Thanks Tracey :) Just wish I'd lugged the tripod, and maybe wandered around the other side of the lawn to get them on the sunny side.
