It was easy enough with my OM1, but my 350D seems to have made manual exposure a little less easy. Not sure that the process changed much between model upgrades.

Yeah the holding the Av button down while twirling the dial is a bit cumbersome. Apparently the 20d, 30d, etc have two dials (forward and back) which make setting the aperture in manual mode a lot easier.

Lovely shot, you nailed the exposure perfectly.

And yeah, i think most other canon models have the 2 dials. Although it does take a bit of getting used to. Especially when i could change any setting on the 400d with my eyes shut.

Thanks Sam. I came across this article which is really quite handy for "rule of thumb" type manual exposure calculation.
Yeah two dials would be handy, although I'm not sure about the big menu navigation dial on the mid to high range Canons - haven't played with one enough to have an opinion.

Nice one. Pretty scene and picture-book fluffy clouds - well organised :o)

Thanks David. On that particular walk, I chose to shoot completely in manual mode (well ok, I used autofocus, but didn't need to for this shot).

Wow - what did you do to the clouds - they look great!

Not much, just a slight contrast curve in lightroom, otherwise it's straight from the camera :)
