Logging at Cedar Creek

This photo features my grandfather (on the left on top of the log) during his sawmill days (late 1930's - early 1940's -ish).

We're reasonably sure this is in the Cedar Creek area (where I now live).

Timber from this area was used locally and shipped to Brisbane sawmills. This particular log may have been milled at the Cedar Creek sawmill or might have gone to Doyles in Mitchelton (where Grandfather also worked for a time).

Neat isn't it ? There are also three shots of Cedar Creek (where I now live) taken about the same time, which I'm getting Dad to scan the prints of at a higher resolution. I'll then try to take the same shot now and post them together. Might take a little while though since the scans will probably be too big for him to email me over dialup.

How did they get that log on the vehicle?! Cool to see old shots like this.

A darn good question. I would guess, and it's only a guess, that there was a ramp involved on the side of the truck, some ropes, a few pulleys, and a lot of hard work.
