While walking to the train station from the car this morning I spied
this kookaburra on the power line.
I'm not totally happy with the picture, it's a little overexposed on the
tail and chest due to the morning sun, but it's not bad given the
circumstances.

Shooting up into the sky is always a problem for me. I think you have done a great job. They sure are noisy at the moment near us. I love their laugh
Thanks Alexandra. If I could get up early enough in the morning I'd hear them going off around my place too, but I'm not a morning person ;)
I do regularly hear them in the afternoon around dusk though - interspersed with the screaching of sulphur-crested cockatoos.
I think these are great, we had a wonderful time with some at the zoo the other day !
I think this is a good photo !
I'll conceed it might be an "ok" photo, but not really what I was after. I'm thinking a smaller aperture might have been the go.
Nice profile shot David.
Last one I saw was a wild one in trees with a nest at Taronga Zoo many years ago.
It's not in an 'old gum tree'! ;) I love these magnificent birds, and admire your good on-the-way-to-the-train capture!
Oh anyone can shoot one in an old gum tree! ;)
Actually, I'm presented with that opportunity quite frequently out where I live.
