I was taking shots of this kookaburra in a tree when he flew down, landed at my feet and proceeded to dig at the ground in front of me!
I only managed a couple of shots before he flew off again.
Taken at the Maiala National Park picnic area, Mt Glorious.

Seen in my contacts' photos. (?)
amazing !!glad he didnt stick that beak in you !
Hi Helen! No, it would be very unusual for a Kookaburra to take on anything bigger than a snake :)
Hi Alexandra! Its a park and people feed the critters - they are far tamer than is safe for them to be, people really shouldn't feed them :(
It was pretty amazing though - it's rare to get quite that close to a wild kookaburra.
This Kookaburra probably likes you, David. (o^.^o)
It's possible Margot, although methinks he liked the worms in the ground at my feet more ;-)
Wow. They are not usually that tame though, are they? At least, I have never been that close to one. Great photo. What great luck for you. Almost as if it was posing for you. I bet people have been feeding him/her, and that is why it came so close.
Not usually that tame, no. Although they're definitely not skittish. Before we built our house, we had some tree stumps to chop up so we were up here every weekend with the chainsaw, etc. There was this one kookaburra who'd fly off while we were cutting but came back as soon as we'd stopped. He let me get quite close on occasions, not as close as this one, but fairly close for a wild bird.
You're right though, the ones in the picnic area are most definitely fed by people and thus are dangerously tame.
