Immature Red-backed Fairy-wren

There were several young wrens at North Pine Dam yesterday, frollicking amoungst the dry foliage. This one landed quite close and I managed to get a quick shot before it disappeared again.

Yeah quite the little punk eh?
Thanks Kath, there were two playing together, but alas, I miffed the focus somewhat on those.

Love his fuzzy haircut just like Bart Simpson in the bird world.
Are you using manual focus are you over AF ? I sometimes correct focus a bit after the AF has locked on

    Thanks Cecily :)
For this one, complete manual focus as the camera won't AF with the 400+1.4x on it (max. aperture of f/8, I'd need a 1 series body to AF).

Don't you hate it when these little dickens' just wont turn around to face you, even when you have been waiting patiently for so long.
  • David de Groot said:
Aye, but you take what you can get and hope for better ;-)

    lovely David, nice and elegant

Thanks :) It was indeed very cute :)
Mine's not fantastic either, but the smaller darker viewfinder on the 30D, and the fact I haven't verified the diopter setting on it, didn't help.
    Thanks :)

    Very cute David.
The background is good, works well, makes this little guy pop nicely... I might have to come birding some time!
  • David de Groot said:
Beware Kane, it can lead to lusting after longer and longer lenses, spending large amounts of time sitting fairly still in the bush and generally seeing birds just about everywhere you go ;-)

Gorgeous photo, Dave. Just too cute. I haven't seen any youngsters around our neck of the woods yet, but now I have the lens to catch one! If only I can keep it steady...
  • David de Groot said:
Ah yes, I noticed you have a new lens - nice one! :)
With spring rapidly approaching, I'm sure you'll see lots of birds appearing :)
