The Bush Stone Curlew chick has hatched!
It's unfortunately shot through a fence as they were in the other carpark. I've cropped out the distracting car (and number plate) from the background, but I have no idea how to remove the fence.

Very cute
perhaps with some wire cutters. Only kidding. It is still a great shot.
If it's not hiding under it's mothers wing, I'll try to get around and take a closer shot without the fence in the morning.
wire cutters also came to my mind...
So, these aren't in a zoo then? real live wild birds?
I like baby birds! So cute and fluffy! The adults look quite anxious and almost haunted don't they?
Must be something about people who hale from Sydney and wire-cutters... :P
Yep, real wild birds Alison. I've been watching these guys for a few weeks now, saw the egg once, but most of the time it was sat on. I figured it must have hatched about a week ago when I saw the nesting bird had moved, didn't see the chick until today. As for the haunted look, they always look like that - weird birds.
this is still a wonderful shot even with the wire fence! :)
(thank you very much for wishing bluehazyjunem well)
I tried to remove something once with a clone tool or similar, ha ha what a joke, looked like a dogs dinner by the time I had worked on it !!
Thanks Maria :-)
Helen, I thought of the clone tool thingy, and the patch tool, but I can only make those work well on uniform backgrounds (e.g. sky). Guess I'll just have to try to get one sans-fence, and hope I don't annoy the parents too much in the process.
It's so cute and so tiny.
So cute!!

Seen in my contacts's photos. (?)
How cute is that, Well caught David!
Thanks Margot, Jill and Kev :)
Due to car issues this morning I didn't stop at Ferny Grove Station. However, I might this arvo on the way home and if I'm lucky get a closer shot sans-fence. :)
