Later in the evening at Scarborough the moon had risen high enough to turn the usual whitish colour. I steadied myself and took this shot handheld at full optical and digital zoom (48x - roughly 600mm equiv.)

nice one david , my 150 mm just can't do it :-)
That's the beauty of the S2 IS. It's versatility. I don't use digital zoom on anything else, but the moon makes for a reasonable picture :)
Nowhere near as sharp as a telescope mount and a dSLR, but hey, you work with what you have :)
its rather nice, you could try to sharpen it a little .. ?
I could but it probably wouldn't help much - digital zoom sucks for clarity.
your moon is wonky down under :-)
I'm impressed that you did this hand-held. I used the tripod on moon shots like this.
hehehe I'll blame the hand-held nature of it ;)
IS works well for these shots.
WOW, what a moon, David! Great shot!
Thanks Margot :)
Thats an Awesome moon shot David
Thanks Kev, it's not too shabby at all, considering the digital zoom used to get it that large.
