Hardhead Duck ? Grebe ?

No idea what this striking duck is. The white eye and bill-tip stand out quite well. There were a few of these in the duck pond at the Botanic Gardens, but none got particularly close to me.

oooh your photo buddy is all in a twist !!

wouldna know what sort of duck it is - am marginally puzzled as to why it got its name - if a hard head it is, I can think of more appropriate names- white eye for example. I think we should start a campaign to rename this duck.....
anyway - difficult to capture clearly when they are getting some steam up, so well got !!

Took me a second to get that Helen ;) (re: the buddy)

As for the duck's name, no different from your decidedly not golden-eyed Golden Eye. ;-)

But yeah, they're tricky little blighters to catch when swimming - I had several headless or tailless duck shots I threw out.
