Flying Ant

The last few nights there has been swarms of flying ants outside. Inevitably, a few get inside despite the fly-screens. This was one of those that squeezed inside and landed on a wall.

Taken with flash, long zoom rather than macro, and levels adjusted to make the wall whiter.

I thought he was either a left over from the Kamakazi squads, dive bombing, or you had the can of Mortien out, judging by the thumbnail Dave ....::--)
Nice detail and well caught mate!

Thanks Kev, I was bored the other night and he was sitting there on the wall in front of my desk... there was a camera at hand.... ;-)

Pesky little buggers that they are. The next morning the veranda, back stairs, and cars are all covered in ant wings (or in the case of my truck, whole ants stuck to the dew on the roof). Our fly-screens are fairly effective, but these guys are very determined.

The photo is NOT an ant! It is a termite. Common error for people to confuse the two orders of insects. Or, is it wishful thinking? Who wants a swarm of termites flying around their home?

fifi la roux Yeah so I've been told. Of course, here in Australia, termites are usually called white-ants, as the usual variety found (without wings) is white-ish.

I have them swarming out of the same spot at the same time every year... hundreds of them with wings... I can contain them from flying away and RAID Ant/Roach kills them easily..
Its a pain and I cant reach the source that they are sleeping for the year... only when they come out can I get the buggers...
