Flower Hand - ver 2.0

This is the same flower "hand" I shot yesterday with the S2 IS, but this time taken with the new 400D and 50mm f/1.8 lens. I might have introduced a very minor amount of camera shake (not quite used to the lack of IS).

The flowers unfortunately decided to grow / bloom overnight, so it's not exactly the same shot.

The bokeh though is the interesting part - completely different from the S2.

The S2 version is here: www.flickr.com/photos/dadegroot/309462993/

Very nice. You must be thrilled with your new camera. Bet you can hardly wait to use it each day.
We have a 28 - 135mm IS lens on our new 30D EOS. It is a great lens too. Camera shake seems to be eliminated, and it has a macro feature, which we have only just discovered. We didn't know that feature when in Sydney, otherwise would have exploited it there.

Love the photo. Orange and green are so great together.

    Thanks Gayle :)

The 28-135 IS looks like a nice lens too. The PowerShot S2 IS has image stabilisation and I'd gotten quite used to that. Now I just need to re-develop my old SLR technique.

Macro photography is a lot of fun, but that'll have to wait for me as I don't have a macro lens.

I looked at the 30D, but figured the 400D would do the job nicely, and with the battery grip it's not cramped to hold. It was also about $500 cheaper (roughly), has more resolution, a self cleaning sensor and the same 9 point auto-focus as the 30D.

I didn't make the choice, my partner did. He looks into the technical side a lot more than I do. I am a bit hit and miss, but I do get many hits though.
New cameras are fun though, aren't they. We still have lots to find out about the new camera. As I said, we only found out about the macro bit by accident. I am sure that lots of great photos will follow, from you, as well as from me I hope.

Definitely fun, and a bit of a learning curve too, but that's part of the fun. :)

The shot turned out nicely. Beautifully composed and nice dof. I like the 400D and mine gets quite a work out. I lashed out on a telephoto with IS built in. Lenses are where the money goes

Seen in my contacts' photos. (?)

Sure is Alexandra. Which tele did you get by the way ? I'm looking at either the 70-200 f2.8 L IS or the 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS, but that won't be for a while.

Who's a happy boy then ! Took me a while to get used to the 350 after the s2, there is still lots I dont do with it though, have fun !

    Very happy indeed Helen :)

The controls aren't too different, at least the terminology is the same.

Let the fun begin, a good lens and a DSLR is magic

Indeed it is Paul! I remember being impressed at how fast the S2 IS was when we first got it (it also uses the DiGIC II processor), but it's like treacle compared to the 400D.
