Mucked up the DoF on this a smidge, but am still adjusting to the new lens somewhat.

    Need to get some practice in though, she's a heavy beasty and the longer focal length is something to adjust to.

    you will adjust just fine !! My son had a way of swinging the tripod mount around to hold onto it better, only occasionally using a monopod. I think its heavier than the 100-400 L I occasionally knick off the other half- either that or I have grown some muscles !

    It is indeed heavier than the 100-400. I'd used the 70-200/2.8 before and then tried the 100-400 in a shop and thought it was positively light in comparison.
    Then I got to play with the 300/2.8 and the 70-200 seems light in comparison ;-)
