Eslite d'Corps - Birds of Prey and Falconry Demonstration - Masked Owl

Abbey Tournament, 2010.

This year there was a Falconry display featuring a range of Birds of Prey including Kestrels, Falcons, Eagles and Owls.

This is the Masked Owl (Tyto novaehollandiae). An exceptional bird for hunting as it is capable of flying silently.

The rest of my photos of the Abbey Tournament are online at clients.degrootphotography.com.au/abbey2010/index.html

I keep missing the awesome stuff! How do you find out about all these great events? I need to steal your social calendar. The picture is great; the detail on the owl is absolutely amazing... my lens envy knows no bounds.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/chooksh] Well I was going for the bird, but it made a nice composition.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/33085391@N00] hehehe quite so - they're like a barn owl, just bigger and stronger.
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/teejaybee] Pretty eh? Alas, because they fly silently, and he was quite keen to attack the lure, I missed the in-flight shot. :(
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonmcmanus] Oh I'm sure I miss all sorts of things, but there are three main events on the winter living history calendar, Emu Gully Air & Land Spectacular (May/June), History Alive (Queen's Birthday weekend), The Abbey Medieval Festival (10/11 July or thereabouts). All three are rich in photographic opportunities but each is unique too.
    [http://www.flickr.com/photos/cobra_11] Thanks - everybody likes Owls :)

You certainly catch more than me! I'll be following your social calendar very carefully. Is there anything interesting coming up, perhaps during the Brisbane festival? I do not pay attention to anything. :)
