Drive-by Shooting

Shot from a golf cart ;-)

I'd stopped momentarily to wait for some golfers to play through and spied this Masked Lapwing nearby, so hefting the 400mm at it, I snagged this shot.

Could this bird also be referred to as a Plover. Has a nasty disposition when approached.

Yep one and the same. They have a spur on their wings and can be relatively dangerous if they want to be.

    Uncropped too :)

Do these birds contain venom in their spur? That is what i've heard.

No, that's just an old tale to scar children :P

Wonderful bird! But this particular specimen seems to be a bit shy though, since it looked away :-)

The can be noisy in the middle of the night whilst we all try to sleep; I like their face colouring which looks like they're wearing a carnival mask.
You also reminded me that I took a similar shot last year on the bigma's first day out which I'll post.

Better looking away than swooping down in attack formation ;-)
Yeah they don't just annoy people during the day, that's for sure.
