Dad, starting to look a bit worried...

As I inched forward, the father of the family started to look a bit worried, stretched his neck out and hissed in that weird way that they do (which was followed by the chick).

amazing birds .. I've a couple in the park behind me and they terrified the family with their cries when we first moved here.

They're definitely quite interesting. Because these guys live at the train station, some 22 mins drive from home, I've not heard their nocturnal callings.

We tend to get owls and bats out our way.

What a strange looking bird. I don't think I have ever seen one before. He has beautiful feathers and those legs are really long.

They're definitely interesting birds Mark. Mostly nocturnal in nature and very well camouflaged, one usually doesn't see them during the day; however these three live at the Ferny Grove train station so I've been following the life of the chick (from nesting to now).
Their default call is a haunting kooooo-leeeeeew or keeeee-looooo which carries for quite a distance in the bush.
