I wandered down the road this afternoon with the new 1D MkIV and my 400/5.6 + 1.4x teleconverter to see how the combo goes for birding.
Being a rather dull day, there wasn't a huge amount out. I spotted some ducks, a rainbow bee-eater, a female figbird, some magpie larks, a couple of sulfur-crested cockatoos, a superb fairy-wren and this crimson rosella.

Very nice David, colours and detail look awesome, how's the focusing perform with the 1.4
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/dulvariprestige] Pretty decent really. I used the Centre-point for this one just to be sure, but it locked on quickly and stayed there.
Very nice Dave! And a new camera as well?

I now have what might be considered a killer combo of a 5DII + 1DIV.
I love the colours in rosellas. Beautiful shot
Certainly wouldn't mind the 5D - 1D combo Dave. Nice work, it'll be great to see what you can get with the new model.
