Cannon Firing

by Historica Germanica at The Abbey Medieval Tournament, 11th July 2009.

This is a still frame from a movie I shot as an experiment to see if it was good enough to capture the muzzle flair.

30fps is great, but the resolution suffers and there seems to be compression artefacts. Still got "the shot" anyway.

That's pretty much a 100% guarantee to get the bang "shot". Nice idea David.

Didn't catch the cannon ball flying out then!

Yeah, but the quality isn't there. Mind you I tried this again on Sunday in the arvo and missed the flare, so 30fps isn't a sure fire catch.
These guys have no balls :-P

Well me mostly ;-) But video makes up for it a bit.

Does it matter how you got the shot ? lol
    Nice one David :-)
  • David de Groot said:
Apparently it does for people who can't do HD video on their cameras ;-)
Nah seriously, doesn't matter a fig, although I'll agree that if you can catch it with a proper still frame rather than from a video, you'll get a crisper, and bigger shot, but it's as much luck as skill.

nice one. I wouldn't mind the ole video feature on my camera.... In saying that I still won't be giving up my stone age 30D anytime soon.
  • David de Groot said:
The 30D is a solid camera, bit low on resolution these days, but still very serviceable :)
  • James Lagden said:
Dave, happy to swap my 30D for your 5D!
  • David de Groot said:
Ummm, lemme think about that..... no, I think I'll hang on to it :P
