Canadian Car & Foundry Harvard Mk IV.

This Canadian built (1944) Harvard Mk IV has been painted in Japanese livery to be used as a Mitsubishi Zero in the 1971 film Tora! Tora! Tora!

There were two replica Zero's at Emu Gully, the other a scaled Yak-52.

I shot this sitting about a metre and an half form the edge of the runway having quickly swapped cameras to the one with the shorter focal length as the aircraft approached.

Additional Info:

"This is actually the second Harvard to carry the reg VH-ZRO. Built by Canadian Car and Foundry for the RCAF as 20362 and taken on charge as late as 19 August 1952. Sold March 1968 and converted to a replica 'Zero' for the film Tora! Tora! Tora!, registered N15798. Sold after the film in 1971 and flew in the USA and UK until 1998. Exported to New Zealand as ZK-ZRO until exported again to Australia in October 2000. Registered VH-ZRO on 17 August 2001 and currently based in Brisbane. It really looks the part!" - Details provided by Phil Vabre.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/teejaybee] Yeah pretty much, although a slightly slower shutter for more prop-blur would have been good, but when you've got less than a second to frame and shoot after having shot something else moments before, it's not a bad effort. ;-)
