But...

Kara had just been told not to do something, so she did a variation of the thing she was told not to do, then complained when we told her she was just told not to do that. (it makes sense, really it does).

Shot from the hip.

Got it in one Alison ;-)

Thanks muchly Greg 8-D I probably could have got a sharper shot shooting properly but would have missed all the expression and spontaneity of it.

No, I assert that you have to try squirming around the rules. Go Kara! ;)
  • David de Groot said:
No no no, she has to respect the authority of her parents ! :-)

(Sweetie, if you read this, don't listen to Rachel! Listen to your mother! ;))
  • Felix42 contra la censura said:
Ok, ok, I'll also respect your authorita! :)

Looks like a repentant expression. Nice title and goes so well with the image.
Ooh, I am jealous of your Canon's filter effects, David!
  • leadegroot said:
*snicker* IIRC its a 'I did not!' expression ;)
  • David de Groot said:
Nothing that can't be done in Photoshop Margot, although with it in-camera I don't need to do the photoshop thing :)

    Your hip shots are great!
  • David de Groot said:
Thanks Michelle :) Some of them miss, but these turned out quite good.
  • Xenedis said:
Great candid shot. She doesn't look very happy. Poor Kara.
  • David de Groot said:
Thanks Johnno :) Yeah, she's at that age where getting her own way isn't happening and apparently that's not fair. ;-)

    =)
  • Xenedis said:
David: I gather you haven't told her that this is how it'll be for the rest of her life. :-)
  • David de Groot said:
Many times Johnno, many times... but she lives in a permanent state of denial (as most nearly-teens / teens do), so it's something she'll have to work out for herself.
  • Xenedis said:
David: Have fun with that. :-)

Once again, great photo. Has Kara seen it?
  • David de Groot said:
It's possible, she's got a flickr account, but rarely checks in (slack if you ask me) ;-)
  • Fey Child said:
Excuse me ? I'm not slack, I just don't have enough time to check every photo of me! (Most of the time I don't know who's taking a photo of me...Ahh, it's good to be loved.)
  • leadegroot said:
Well, maybe you should start a group about yourself so everyone can put their shots there and you can keep track of them?
Nah, that would be too narcissistic, even for you! :-P

    great capture!
  • David de Groot said:
Thanks :) Even more-so since I didn't look through the viewfinder to take it, just pointed in the general direction and shot. It was the only way to capture the expression without giving myself away.

I totally get the text!!! mine is 3 & I'm already getting this!!!!
    nice capture of her expression!!!

  • David de Groot said:
Oh yeah, she was like this as soon as she was old enough to talk. I really pity anyone unfortunate enough to have girls. Boys are so much easier to deal with. ;-)
  • ~The Olis In 'Consin~ said:
I have to argue with the boy vs. girl thing. I really pitty anyone who has a strong willed child, no matter if it's a boy or a girl......it's ain't easy :D
  • David de Groot said:
    Well maybe...
  • Xenedis said:
    I was a strong-willed child.

    I still am strong-willed. :-)

Yes, I often tell people "She's going to be a *great* adult... <grits teeth> if we let her live that long" ;)
  • Xenedis said:
No wonder she looks like she's about to break down; both parents are paying out on her in here. :-)
  • David de Groot said:
Somebody has got to keep that ego in check! ;-)
  • leadegroot said:
Nothing that doesn't happen in real life :)
  • Xenedis said:
Just how troublesome is Kara, Mr and Mrs DG? :-)

  • David de Groot said:
Weeeellll... imagine the sweetest, most helpful, loving little girl you can... she swings between that, and the complete opposite on a far too frequent basis.
  • Xenedis said:
Your daughter is Dr Jeckyl and Miss Hyde?

Let's see... you have boys and hormones to which to look forward.

    What he said, with tears.
I've always said she was born aged 35, and she is getting better as she gets older, so there ishope (although Dave claims not to be able to see it)

(Do you think she'll read this???)
  • Xenedis said:
Lea: Perhaps in a few months when she realises we've all been discussing her in the company of 30 million people or so. :-)

  • ferrous said:
truly a great capture! amongst all of her other traits, she's very photogenic, that girl of yours. :-)

Seen in your The many faces of Kara set. (?)
  • David de Groot said:
Yep, her one redeeming feature ;-) Well ok, she's actually a pretty good sister to her brothers (as much as a sister could be anyway) and is quite helpful around the house (when she wants to be). It's just a shame about the brief screaming/sobbing episodes that seem to happen more regularly than they probably do.
  • leadegroot said:
she is, isn't she? It has occurred to me to put her up for modelling (honestly, I would put *most* of the money away for her future... ;)) but - no idea where to start, and the industry has such a bad rep for handling young ladies :(
  • ferrous said:
    - i'll bet that practically being a teenager doesn't help. *thinks for a moment* i think we had this conversation on saturday, didn't we? lol! :-D

    - yeah, i can understand your hesitation. it actually cost quite a bit to get them started. you have to pay the modelling agencies pretty high fees as well as the money laid out to get a portfolio done. i'd worry about destroying her self confidence, too, of which she does seem to have plenty. (speaking of her self confidence, that may be a frustrating thing for you now, but my bet is that it'll do her really well in later life.) the modelling life/culture/comminuty doesn't seem a very healthy one.

  • leadegroot said:
Ohhhh, yes, we know! Our standard line is something like 'She's going to be an incredible adult... if we let her live that long'

There are fees? I didn't know. (I should insert some line about the minimal research I had done not revealing that ;)) Well, there's another great plan down the toilet :)
  • ferrous said:
    - uh huh. there are fees. the ony way they don't charge fees is if they think the potential model has "IT".

Well, I may be a biased mother, but even I don't think the camera loves her that much :)
