Coturnix ypsilophora.
This one is a new species for me in this area. Discovered by accident as I turned around and there they were, but they saw me and disappeared. I sat on a rock for 5 mins, very still and very quiet before I heard russling in the bushes and then out emerged the quails (a pair).

Patience paid off! Nice work and well spotted.
I think it's wonderful that they have made your place home. Nice work as usual.
Your story and photos remind me of mourning doves here. Sweet birds that hop around on the ground, easily scared. A treat for you to find the quails - I trust that we won't be seeing any quail dishes!
As for eating, this guys just the right size of a big dinner for one ;-) But no, I shoot with with a camera and oddly enough that doesn't result in something tasty to eat.
They do look tasty though. Just like 1 big drumstick.
